How To Take Care Of Your Skin

Do you want gorgeous, glowing, fresh skin? A proper skin care regimen is crucial if you want skin that’s healthy and radiant. Find out how to take care of your skin and protect it against the harsh rays of the sun. Steps to a dewy complexion include using a quality cleanser, exfoliating, moisturizing and protecting it from the sun; one of the leading causes of wrinkles and aging.

The First Step : Cleanse

Pick a cleanser that’s gentle because a harsh one can dry out your skin, cause irritation or even outbreaks. A facial wash should never leave your skin feeling tight afterwords. One of my personal faves is Philosophy Purity because it’s very mild, removes dirt and oil in addition to heavy eye makeup including eyeliner. Yep; it actually takes off my MAC blacktrack and waterproof mascara, sunscreen and tinted moisturizer. I used to use MAC’s heavy duty oil cleanser to take off my makeup but there’s no need for two separate steps with Purity.

Exfoliate In Order To Let Lotions & Serums Penetrate Better

I like to use a Clarisonic with my cleanser to really get deep into the pores. The Clarisonic
uses a rotating brush in combination with sonic technology in order to remove dirt and grime and exfoliates the top layers of your skin. This is extremely important because if the top layers of your skin are dry it will look flaky no matter how much lotion you put on top.

Another benefit of using up a cleansing brush like the Clarisonic is that it will allow your serums and moisturizers to penetrate better because you won’t have this thick layer of dead skin on top acting as a barrier. You’ll find your current skin treatments working much better once you start using a cleansing brush. If your skin is really sensitive then it’s probably not a good idea to use Clarisonic twice a day. You’ll probably just want to start off by using it every other day and then maybe just once a day. Personally I don’t like using it twice a day because I feel that’s kind of excessive and harsh on my skin.
If you are on a budget you can opt for something more affordable like Olay Pro-X Advanced. If you’re in a hurry, a slightly damp wash cloth can work wonders on dry skin as well as chapped lips.

Vitamin C Serum Provides 8X Antioxidant Protection

During the daytime you’ll want to apply vitamin C serum right after you cleanse. You want to apply this after you clean your skin so that it will penetrate better. A Vit C serum will increase the potency of your sunscreen and make it that much more effective against the sun’s rays. Let it penetrate a few minutes before you put sunscreen on. Vitamin C also contains a lot of antioxidants and nutrients which will make your skin look glowier and more radiant. Skinceuticals CE Ferulic contains 15% L-Ascorbic Acid which neutralizes acids in addition to 1% Vitamin E which neutralizes free radicals.
The next step is to apply a sunscreen. And fortunately most of the sunscreens in the US market aren’t as superior in formulation as the Japanese and European ones. For one, we only use SPF to which is is not a thorough way to measure the sunscreens effectiveness whereas the European and Japanese sunscreens    also use PPD which is just as important as SPF. SPF solely measures the sun protection factor while PPD (persistent pigment darkening) measures the sun’s level of protection from UVA rays. UVA are the rays which increase hyperpigmentation/melasma and wrinkles.

If you have the option I highly recommend that you purchase European or Japanese sunscreens like Shiseido or LaRoche Posay. La Roche-Posay Anthelios SX PPD level is 15 which is one of the highest that is available in the US market. This sunscreen combined with an antioxidant serum will provide your skin with the most protection when it comes to the sun’s damaging rays. However, you may want to experiment because some people prefer physical sunscreen over the chemical sunscreen; it’s a very personal thing since everyone’s skin reacts differently.

The Best Night Moisturizers

There’s been a lot of buzz about facial oils in the last years and for good reason. Oils are natural, don’t contain any harsh chemicals and most do an excellent job of moisturizing ensuring that you’ll wake up with glowy skin. Josie Maran Argan Oil 1.7 oz and Tarte Maracuja are two that I’ve personally used and can recommend. Don’t be scared to try an oil out if you have oily or acne prone skin. I’ve read reviews of people with acne saying that putting oil in their skin actually improved their acne by normalizing their skin.

Taking good care of your skin is important because it’s the first thing people see. Most people don’t think about things like accumulating skin damage from going on a drive on a sunny day or even just walking around on a cloudy day but the truth is that skin damage is accumulated through a lifetime and the little things can make a difference. Love your skin and it will love you right back 🙂
